Re: WRF model with ICON grib data

Might make sense to use +06fh from FNL for init and then rest GFS latest for bounday conditions..

Re: WRF model with ICON grib data

How much time delay did you found between GFS and FNL? And is that delay consistent over time or vary much?

Re: WRF model with ICON grib data

I didn't. I use my own system. In UEMS I don't know what has to be changed in order to use for input something unsupported directly out of the box but here are people that probably did it.

Re: WRF model with ICON grib data

Vtable without soil data if you really want to run it. GRIB1| Level| From | To | metgrid | metgrid | metgrid |GRIB2|GRIB2|GRIB2|GRIB2| Param| Type |Level1|Level2| Name | Units | Description |Discp|Catgy|Param|Level| -----+------+------+------+----------+---------+------------------------------------...

Re: WRF model with ICON grib data

I have same result ignoring soil data as that guy. sf_surface_physycs = 1 worked but NOAH can not. I'm not interested in such simulation, is it really garbage. And very few - 17 vertical levels, compared to something like 40 from GFS or 90 from ECMWF makes those simulation a joke. So I gave up. I wo...

Re: METGRID not decoding soil parameters properly

Now is the question how to distinguish between 10cm and 100cm because they seems to have same description in grib file. I'm not sure but you might try to put astersk in From Level1 field (and maybe use only one line - similar like those 3D fields like Temperature for example). Don't worry about Desc...

Re: METGRID not decoding soil parameters properly

What happens if you change under Level1 these?

Code: Select all

10 -> 1
100 -> 1
300 -> 3
It looks wrong to me to do that, but try and see what happens then.

Re: METGRID not decoding soil parameters properly

Hmm

Is there anything useful in ungrib.log? Can you post it's contents?

Also can you please use "code" tags around pasted contents for much better readability?

Re: METGRID not decoding soil parameters properly

Looks like Vtable is wrong. Can you please post Vtable contents that you use?

Re: WRF model with ICON grib data

Hello,

Forget it. We tried. There are no soil temperature and soil moisture available in required levels (mandatory for NOAH or RUC - pretty much all configurations) and there are only 17 vertical levels. We contacted DWD to see if there is anything that can be done, they said no.
