Re: acquiring boundary conditions file.

If they are all 0.5 degree files - it is just a naming issue. Content of the files should be the same. You can check this by looking at the file inventories using a utility such as wgrib or wgrib2 You will need a info.conf file for each set with the appropriate naming rules and obviously you will no...

I also kindly request to know how i can identify initialization and boundary conditions for my region from the data on this website https://nomads.ncdc.noaa.gov/data/gfsanl/

The files have global coverage. When you run ems_prep it will "take" what it needs.

Re: acquiring boundary conditions file.

Hi Cliffe, You need to perform a number of steps. First find the historic grib files. There are a number of places. Also note that for 2013 there are no 0.25 degree gribs. I suggest https://nomads.ncdc.noaa.gov/data/gfsanl/ for 0.5 degree gribs. After you download the required gribs (in 3 hour steps...

Re: acquiring boundary conditions file.

It appears to me that you are trying to run on data from 2013. Not all historic data is kept on the operational data servers. You should try and find the GFS historic archives and manually download from there. Alternately you can try changing the server settings in the gfs_gribinfo.conf file to wher...

Re: How to improve convection triggering?

I didn't follow the storm in Greece closely last week. I have, however, been able in the past to forecast a Mesoscale Convective Vortex (MCV) that occurred on 25 Oct 2015 hitting Alexandria, Egypt and 6 hours later Beirut, Lebanon. It also spawning supercells that caused extensive damage in Israel. ...

Re: How to improve convection triggering?

Hi alfe, You are correct. There is no possible selection of trigger options for MSKF which is a pity at it appears to not trigger when it should. Rainy season is starting here in the East Med and I'm closely monitoring forecast performance with the regular KF module using trigger option 3. Interesti...

Re: How to improve convection triggering?

I spent some more time on this issue after poor rain forecasts and managed to obtain some improvement with the following configuration of a 12km/4km domain set. I set cu_physics = 1,1 to force the cumulus module on the high resolution sub domain in spite of the uems warning. The 4km sub domain is no...

Re: How to improve convection triggering?

Hi, I have spent some time trying some options to see the effect on the triggering of convection in the model and to the extent of convection shown. I run a 12km outer domain with one 4 km nest and did the comparisons on a specific date (25 October 2015) when there was a very active Red Sea Trough w...

Re: MAP SAVE ERROR

It sounds like a linux privileges issue. You might try a clean installation (after deleted the previous one). Ensure that you are logged in as administrator while installing and when asked for the user to give ownership to enter cliffe.

Re: nomad tiles larger than ptiles from ems system ?

I concur that the nomads tiles are double the size of the uems ptiles. I am using smaller domains so I don't really mind the slightly longer download time. I noticed your request for the Nomads data and the var LANDN is missing. You will need this to get correct masking after the GFS upgrade. Otherw...
