Hello,

I can't get radar reflectivity, cape, cin, lightning, .. when use Thompson or WSM6 microphysics in NMMB / UPP3.0.

Have any of you met this problem and solved it?

Hello Ivan,
I can try enabling these parameters on my NEMS-NMMB for Thompson and WSM3 MP schemes.
Is lightning computed by UPPV3.0 or is it a direct output variable from the model?

I'm not sure at this point. Does anybody know what software can read nio files that NMMB creates (like ncview for wrfout nc files)?

CAPE is the most deal breaker here to use Thompson or WSM6. Without lightning is possible, without radar reflectivity if really have to, but can't go without CAPE really...

GrADS read output files in NEMSIO binary format.
It doesn't work for you, Ivan?

Actually you're right. No ligtning there as far as I can see. I didn't gone through all those vars though. Do you have it? CAPE also is not there (expected). Reflectivity is but is broken, nothing useful inside that var.

Ivan, currently I run with fer_hires microphisycs.
After I have enabled LIGHTNING in UPP control file, I have the variable

LTNGsfc 0,1,0 0,17,192 ** surface Lightning [non-dim]

in the post-processed files, with sane and defined values between 0 and 1.
And it looks quite accurate compared with the lightning strikes observed today :)

Will try with Thompson and WSM6 (in the previous message I had mistakenly written WSM3) and I let you know.

Yes, Ferrier based runs give that correctly here. Please check CAPE fields if you test WSM6 or Thompson.

Hello,

I am trying to run NMMB model with ERA data. And obviously I had missed something or I am doing something wrong.
I got this error when I run nemsinterp.exe
WRF_DEBUG: NetCDF error: NetCDF: Variable not found
WRF_DEBUG: NetCDF error in wrf_io.F90, line 3302
ERROR: In read_next_field(), problems with ext_pkg_get_var_info()
I had run ungrib.exe with changed Vtable, also geogrid.exe, and metgrid.exe without any errors in my log file. I also have constant file in metgrid section. In geogrid section I had set gwd to true, but when I run it I only get geo_nmb.d01.nc file GWD_bin_01 is not created. I tried to run it without gwd, and I get same error when I run nemsinterp.exe

I will appriciate any help or advice. I am attaching my namelist.nps also. Thank you.

Hello,

Do you have global or regional dataset?

Similar stuff happened many times to me when I cut GFS to smaller area than I should. For some reason, no errors would see until nemsinterp which would crash with messages completely unrelated to the real cause.

I have regional dataset. But after you suggested to try with global dataset, I tried but I got same error when run nemsinterp.exe :?
