Newest GFS (that in parallel mode currently) has hourly output to 120h.

There is an option to make one big grib file with APCPsfc, and then normalize it with wgrib2. It works fine.

I basically do cat *gfs* > biggfs.grib before doing g2ctl and gribmap, then I work on single file. How to normalize it?

Like that:
wgrib2 biggfs.grib -match ":APCP:" -set_grib_type c1 -ncep_norm normalized_biggfs.grib

Looks the same to me, after that. I'll need to investigate bit more when I get some free time. Do you have hourly output somewhere to take a look?

Thx, I'll need to look more into this, this output is just fine.

The para forecasts appears to only have 32 levels rather than the maximum 48 (now 52?) available with the old GRIB filter from combining the B grib (0p25b). Anyone found a way to get the extra levels back?

The upgraded GFS is coming out tomorrow (May 11, 2016) starting with the 12z run.
Do you guys know if the NOMADS grib filter URLs (http://nomads.ncep.noaa.gov/cgi-bin/filter_gfs_0p25.pl) remain the same?

According to the TIN there will be new grib filter for the 1h output (filter_gfs_0p25_1hr.pl). However I won't be able to switch to it immediately and will continue to use the "old" filters for at least a couple of runs hence my question.

Thanks!

Cheers,
- Ivan

I believe everything will be under the hood without affecting your scripts.
