Excellent topic, just was thought to start it :D Just one note to people who wish to share their benchmarks, computer need to be idle during doing benchmark (except wrf of course), if not results will be wrong.

Next is result from my fastest modelling computer for now. It runs Centos 5.2. WRF-EMS v3 beta2 is working at RAID-0 volume, don't know if it has effect on performance, but due to large amounts of data written to disk, I decided to build software RAID-0 volume for WRF, hoping it can benefit from that.

Hm, I doubt v3 beta2 benchmark case is the same as in V2.1? It will be strange that my system is so slower than wettersat's (11:24 vs 4:00 minutes). There were 4 cores at 100% running during benchmark, checked it.

Benchmark v2 and v3 is NOT the same.

v2 Benchmark:
45 levels
36 sec time step
5005 grid points
-> 540.54 million calculations

v3 Benchmark:
45 levels
30 sec time step
grid 75 X 150
-> 1458 million calculations

I run also v3 beta 2
Shuttle PC with Fedora 10 64 bit

ARW CORE with Hyperthreading turned ON, I get very little performance difference with hyperthreading.

We just build a new pc with intel i7 processor. Has anyone made a benchmark in beta 3.1.1 version (2 domains.. mother 14.9 km res. and child 5 km res?)

Wow, BBWDTB,

I7 860 excellent results!! Thanks for sharing, this was the last information I looked for to complete my thoughts about Core I7! I can imagine how fast should be I7 950! I'm planning to get two I7 950 and build little cluster with them, that will absolutely rock! :D

Yes, I found some information about hyperthreading and WRF (not related to EMS version), and people say there is no difference with HT switched on or off, I even found information that WRF can actually be little bit slower with HT.
