terminology of "--cycle" warning in docs

Can someone mention what the warning about using "--cycle" in the docs means? " Important: This flag is not to be used for real-time modeling purposes! " In the same section of the docs, it mentions using cycle for operational forecasts: " For an operational forecast model, ...

Re: Intel Binaries

Hmmm... maybe. Opensuse Leap 15.1 is what I'm using. You should probably post your console (screen) output since it's *really* hard to get an idea of what's going on when you just say, "it doesn't work..."

Anyone using separate land surface model (--lsm) init data for forecasts?

I'm having some trouble getting the relative humidity correct in a desert region. uEMS has a --lsm option to obtain land surface data from a server. I don't believe this is normally used for forecast data, but would this be better land-surface data than that included in standard initialization files...

Re: Intel Binaries

I'm using v21.3.1 and the intel binaries work. The speedup involved on my 12-core Xeon machine is remarkable - something near a factor of 2 speedup. IIRC, in the latest couple of versions, Robert compiled these as static binaries so they should work under any linux distro. Maybe someone can confirm.

Re: EMS Servers

Dumb question: why not upgrade to the latest version (which fixed that problem).

God, I wish I was good at Perl.

Re: error in 21.3.1

Geogrid works, so there seems to be something wrong with the install. Hmmm... Are you using the .pgi or the .intel executables?

Nowcasting?

Hi Everyone: Is any one working with "nowcasting?" Evidently this is associated generally with assimilating local weather station data into a more general forecast, but since it's local data being assimilated, the typical definitions are 2 - 6 hour forecasts = "nowcasts" I know U...

ems and the GB...

Looking around this forum and the fb forum (NEWR-EMS-WRF) I see lots of folks using EMS from all over the world. This makes me happy and Robert has always been so kind. :D I wonder how many of us are PERL-savvy (and WRF-savvy) enough to keep EMS alive in case something happens to https://strc.comet....

Re: Can't properly create a Domain | UEMS 21.1.2

DOMWIZ has an issue with the paths in the [domain/run] configuration file. I think I told Robert once. Make sure ALL the paths listed in the domain config file are full paths (not relative). One or two of the paths (I forget) are actually *relative* paths after dwiz starts - so I kill dwiz and edit ...

Re: EMS Servers

Does anyone know if that fixes the "personal tile" services? I'm running v21.1.2 and I can use NAM, RAP, GFS*, etc., but not the personal tile equivalent locations (NAMPT, etc.). I know that the ems servers are running, but ems_run returns "Internal Server Error" when trying to u...
