Aerosol effects (AER_OPT)

Hi All, I am testing several options to account for the direct effect of aerosols (AER_OPT). I am using UEMS V15.99.5 and I am facing two problems : 1. First, setting AER_OPT = 2 (Ruiz-Arias method) using RRTMG radiation schemes and the defaults additional options (AER_TYPE=1, AER_AOD550_OPT=1, AER_...

Re: Manage wrf output variables

I haven't fully figured out what has changed yet but the following hack adds the required functionality calling the i/o text file at runtime. After lines 243 and 519 in .../uems/strc/EMSrun/Models/WRF/WRFrun.pm add # Finally create the link to the text file to modify the output history streams. Add...

Re: Manage wrf output variables

Thanks Smartie. After having talked to Robert, there are actually two ways to modify output streams: 1) following the instructions you gave 2) by modifying the Registry and then recompile. The directions are summarized in uems/util/UEMSbuild/SourceCode_WhatsInHere.txt but the basics steps are the sa...

Manage wrf output variables

Hi, I am using UEMS version 15.47.3 and I would like to write to the wrf netcdf output files the following variables: swddir, swddni, swddif, etc ... (WRF-Solar). I have edited the Registry file (/wrf/uems/util/UEMSbuild/src/models/wrf/WRFncar2uems/Registry/Registry.EM_COMMON) and search for the lin...

Re: Use WRF V3.6.1 vs 3.4.1 in WRFEMS.

I asked to Robert in September how to do this and he told me that he will have EMS Version 3.6.1.14.X available in December.

Re: Using GFS 0.25° grid dataset

230 MB / file will need a lot of time to download, so at the moment I can't input the parallel run into WRF operational runs. In fact, you can use it only for intialization, and then for boundary input files use normal gfs of gfsptiles. In EMS environment, use something like DSETS=gfs-para%gfsptile...

Re: Using GFS 0.25° grid dataset

Thanks for your response. And what about GFS-PROD ? Do you know a server where to download archives ?

Re: Using GFS 0.25° grid dataset

Is there a way to download GFS PARA grib files for period that are older than a few days ?
I would like to reforecast some days but the ftpprd.ncep.noaa.gov only contains the last 3 days.
