Re: Turbo boost and overclock in wrf/ems-uems

Personally tested, made overclocking a processor i7 6800k, dispelled liquid with corsair hydro h115i, up to 4.2 ghz (stable). The performances are there and the increase on the clock of 3.4 GHz on a simulation with two nesting to 24 hours is about 5.6 minutes less, than the classic clock of 3.4GHz ;-)

AMD Ryzen released!

Hello to all AMD has finally released ZEN, the new processor which they say comes to the most renowned i7 power, like the 6800k and 6900K. In particular the solution to 8 cores can compete directly with the 6900K / 6950k, resulting in even more performing, with a lower TDP and performance in higher ...

Incidence quad channel ram

I wondered how incidesse a possible quad channel, only some motherboards (Intel 2011 socket)

we assume to use 32 GB sizes from 8GB bench (frequency 2400MHz DDR4)

Putting them in quad channell WRF should be faster? They would have more results than a dual channel from 16gb to counter?

Re: Turbo boost and overclock in wrf/ems-uems

Hello Ivan, let's take a concrete example. A quad core i5 3750k, base clock with Turbo Boost 3.4 to 3.8 ghz. If on 4 core I will use only 3 wrf with turbo boost should work right? In ubuntu using the utility that measures the cpu frequency, I always see a stable 3.6GHz, I wonder whether it is right ...

Turbo boost and overclock in wrf/ems-uems

Hello everyone, I was wondering two things:

1) WRF / EMS / UEMS uses the intel turbo boost? a presser to 3 GHz in turbo (of course if the certificate) must be such as to 3.4 in wrf-ems works?

2) An overclock the cpu, portandaola top positive influence in wrf?

Of course I speak of i5 / i7 processors

Re: Incidence Sata 2.0 - 3.0/1

@meteoadriatic I put my old Hard Disk 500GB Sata 2 ... The same simulation ARW (without nesting) to 72 hours with 25km gfs data (+ monsondata lakes / rivers) MAXTOR HDD 500GB SATA 2: 1 hour and 38 minutes SAMSUNG 850 EVO SSD SATA 3: 1 hour and 33 minutes The difference is small, it must be said, how...

Incidence Sata 2.0 - 3.0/1

Hi, I was wondering what can be the influence of a memory (hard disk) with SATA 2.0 connection against the new 3.0 / 1 of WRF. Using a SSD memory I have not noticed much difference apart from a start-up and fast system management and resources. Meteoadriatic recommended the use of a mechanical memor...

Re: Intel-Core-i7-7700K

how about the configuration that I have chosen? let's say that for some simulation in most (maybe a little nest) can go .... There can't be any big surprises differing your results much from cpubenchmark data about speed. 16GB RAM might be not enough if you want to run big number of grid points. Of...
