SOLVED - Set a smaller time step for DFI

The domain is located quite far north so the default time step during DFI must have led to instability of the simulation.
I reduced the time step for DFI and now it's working OK

Re: UEMS/WRF EMS 18.x

You may be using the old installer script.
The old script cannot be used for V18.
The new one should be dated 11 jan 2018.

The problem is with the defaults

OK... it is working but the default setting have changed which ends up in a rather slow run at fixed times. With a 12km/4km domain run the actual starting time step is 48/16 seconds (DX * 4). Then it increases and settles on a maximum of 96/32 seconds (DX * 8). I would normally see fluctuation of ti...

Adaptive Time Step not working?

Hi all,

Time step with V18.1.0 appears to be fixed even with ADAPTIVE time step activated.
Has anyone else seen this?

Segmentation Fault in DFI with 3 domain levels

Hi all, I am getting a segmentation fault crash with V18.1.0 during DFI with a 3 level domain run (9km,3km,1km). Without DFI all seems to be OK. A 2 domain level run (12km,4km) on a different machine with V18.0.1 seems to be OK with DFI = 3. Has anyone else seen the same problem? BTW the command lin...

Re: snow variable in uems

I think the SNOD fields are the ones you should use for plotting the depth of accumulated snow. SNOD_ON_SURFACE == total depth of snow BUCKET_SNOD_ON_SURFACE == period change (includes melting). Period accumulation of precipitation in snow form is probably BUCKET_ASNOW_ON_SURFACE which is measured i...

Beware of using --import during install of V18.1.0

Hi all, The --import flag if used during install is for importing of the original run domains to the new installation. Problem that I found is that the configuration files are all converted to the new V18 form in the original folders of the old installation. This means that one will have quite a pro...

Re: acquiring boundary conditions file.

If they are all 0.5 degree files - it is just a naming issue. Content of the files should be the same. You can check this by looking at the file inventories using a utility such as wgrib or wgrib2 You will need a info.conf file for each set with the appropriate naming rules and obviously you will no...

The files have global coverage. When you run ems_prep it will "take" what it needs.
