Re: Changes needed for GFS Update 2017?

I am experiencing the same, but I am currently still on 15.99.2. My runs fail, and I do not get any diagnostic messages. Is this problem solved in 15.99.5? All my domain runs failed on the first try but started up OK on the second and subsequent runs without changing anything. I suggest to try again.

Re: Changes needed for GFS Update 2017?

There is a new update on uems server: 15.99.5 http://ems3.comet.ucar.edu/uems/releases/ Has anyone tested it? I have tried it and it finally appears to be working OK. I performed both updates (15.99.2 & 15.99.5) at the same time using the install utility dated 18 July 2017. There were problems with...

Re: Sea model

Hi, FYI the marine data in openSkiron.org is taken from external sources running the WAM model for waves and the NEMO model (and others) for sea currents. This marine data is merged with the UEMS atmospheric forecast data in the distributed Grib files. These are primarily targeted to the sailing com...

Re: MICROPHYSICS: Lin et-al vs Ferrier

Thanks for the suggestion. WSM5 is quite fast. Not as much as Ferrier but faster than Lin.
I will see if I get better precipitation forecasts next winter.

MICROPHYSICS: Lin et-al vs Ferrier

Hello all,

I tried the Ferrier Micro Physics scheme (MP_PHYSICS = 5) and found it to be about 10% faster than the default scheme, Lin et-al (MP_PHYSICS = 2).

What differences might I expect in the resulting forecast using Ferrier scheme with a single nested model at 12km/4km grids?

Thanks,
David

Re: gribinfo.conf for NOMADS Grib Filter

Hi Ivan,

I have not been able to make it work. The Prep routines add a 'dset' parameter to the end of the URL and the NOMADS server rejects this with any value as an invalid parameter.

Did you make any other tweaks to the Ptiles.pm script?

gribinfo.conf for NOMADS Grib Filter

Hi all,

Is it possible to set up a gribinfo.conf file to use the NOMADS grib filter system? This would need to be set to a preset lon/lat and the required variables.

I would like to use such a possibility as a fallback on the ptiles system.

Thanks,
David
