Re: About DFI

Hi Luis,

I use TDFI (DFI_OPT = 3) on all my operational runs and it does a good job of removing start up artefacts.
My outer domains are 12km with 4km nests.
The "price" is only about 5 minutes added to the run times.

Re: UEMS CPU suggestion

Hi, I'm using 12GB RAM in each box and find that this is enough. 3 x 2GB for each CPU i.e 1 memory card for each channel. I had a reduction in speed when I used 16GB as it required 2 cards in one of the memory channels which slowed things down. Sure, let's do a comparison. We can use the benchmark c...

Re: WRF initializing WRF vs nesting

Hi, Thanks for the observation. Adding boundary conditions at every time step should definitely provide better simulation. It may, however actually be slower. My motivation for exploring the option of WRF separate runs stems from looking for better economy in covering much of the Mediterranean with ...

WRF initializing WRF vs nesting

Hi all, I am interested to know if there should be an inherent difference in the simulation output between the two following cases: Case 1. A single 1 way nested run with gfsp25 initializing a WRF run with outer domain having 12km grid and inner nested domain with 4km grid. Case 2. First run gfsp25 ...

Re: Problems interpolating SST --sfc file

Hi Ivan,

Thanks for the input. I"ll give it a try in the coming days.

Problems interpolating SST --sfc file

Hello users, I am trying to use a high resolution source for SST in the Mediterranean (1km). The Grib file includes only one variable for the temperature and no mask of its own. When using this file I am getting temperature artifacts on coastlines only. I suspect that the problem is a masking issue ...

Re: Is there really benefit using --sfc rtgsst in the Mediterranean area?

The SST product data sheet: hort description: For the Mediterranean Sea- The CNR MED Sea Surface Temperature provides daily gap-free maps (L4) at 0.0625deg. x 0.0625deg. horizontal resolution over the Mediterranean Sea. The data are obtained from infra-red measurements collected by satellite radiome...

Re: Is there really benefit using --sfc rtgsst in the Mediterranean area?

More exploring.....

... they also have a 1km SST of the Med which is updated daily. This is specifically SST and is in Kelvin.
(sample in the dropbox).

Keen to know if it might be useful.

Thanks,
David

One needs to register and then download via their interface.
I sent you a PM with a dropbox link that has a sample sst file.

Re: Is there really benefit using --sfc rtgsst in the Mediterranean area?

Have you seen the data available from Mercator-Ocean (distributed by CMEMS)?

They have high resolution sea surface temperature (in centigrade) for the entire Mediterranean in netcdf format. I'm not sure if it is suitable for use in WRF initialization.
