About FV3 data

Post by lcana » Fri Sep 27, 2019 11:53 am

Hi all,

I have a question about the data we use to initialize the model. The ones called gfspt25 are indeed the old GFS data or are they already the new ones of the FV3-GFS output?

I so, how to do to load the FV3 data?

Best,

Luis

As far as I remember, gfsp25 and gfsp25pt and other gfs datasets switched over to FV3 on the 12 June this year.
If you have the latest version of UEMS the switch over is transparent.

Thanks,

So the gfs25pt and the others are indeed the FV3 output?

As far as I can tell from url in config files it seems so. But if you're very concerned, you can check it out easy. Just use GrADS to plot downloaded files and check result agains whatever you download yourself from fv3 and/or legacy gfs. Whichever of those two matches, it is the answer.

It is easy to check which match. Open both gribs (uems ptile and your fv3 grib), then in grads prompt try for example:

> d tmp2m.2-tmp2m-1

You should get whole domain = 0 if they match. If they don't there will be difference.
