EMS servers - connection problem

Post by emsiwx » Sat Dec 22, 2018 3:05 pm

Hi,

is anyone else experiencing problems connecting to EMS servers? In the morning I managed to install the newest UEMS, but was not able to get any ptiles from any of ems1-3.comet.ucar.edu servers. full GFS .5 gribs from nomads,ncep ftp and www worrked.

Now I am trying to do a new fresh installation, and I get:

Checking http connection to ems3.... - It's Alive!
Connecting to ems3... - Failed

! There was a problem retreiving information from ems3....

Thank you for your time and reply.

It might be the same as the problem I found - my Ubuntu system has an issue with the new EMS.profile.

It doesn’t like this. I’m not sure why though. HTTP_PROXY appears empty.

if [ -n $HTTP_PROXY ] ; then
http_proxy=http://$HTTP_PROXY ; export http_proxy
unset HTTP_PROXY
fi

All is ok if I change it back to

if [ $HTTP_PROXY ] ; then
http_proxy=http://$HTTP_PROXY ; export http_proxy
unset HTTP_PROXY
fi

I haven't managed to get the new intel binaries to work and I’m getting an error with emsupp, but will look at that tomorrow.

Btw, the emsupp error ontains this:

*** Error in /uems/bin/emsupp : corrupted size vs prev_size

Then in the post_emsupp1_wrfoutd01.log

[0]0:Return code =0, signaled with Interrupt

Hi,

thank you for your reply. I am not using proxy and my EMS.profile contains:

http_proxy= ; export http_proxy

Changing anything like you suggested does not help :/

BTW., yes running Ubuntu too. I had also to change libssl and libcrypto .so.1.0.0 to .so.10 , to be able to get the files for GrADS.

I have not managed to get intel bins to work neither... If you come to an solution, please let me know.

Thank you for your time.

I am running Suse 42.3 on an old Intel testbed machine.

Update to 12.8.1 went OK.
Downloads OK.
The new Intel exes will fail if your processor instruction set is not supported.
(Self compiled Intel exes work OK)
New EMSUPP OK and fast. Be aware it gives little feedback while it goes about its business.
GRADS:
-had to install and link libssl and libcrypt as above
-had to install system libpng15
-had to edit

Code: Select all

.../uems/util/grads/data/udpt
to point to the lib folder. I suppose you could link to the GRADS Supp files folder if you download that.
Beware the old GRADS exe and link were not saved on my install as promised!

Simply, rename the files.

The Intel binaries also fail for me, although they pass the test in the README:

patti@linux:~/00_UEMS/users/00_uems/uems/bin> ldd wrfm_arw.exe.intel
linux-vdso.so.1 (0x00007ffdebf98000)
libdl.so.2 => /lib64/libdl.so.2 (0x00002b7a065f6000)
librt.so.1 => /lib64/librt.so.1 (0x00002b7a067fa000)
libpthread.so.0 => /lib64/libpthread.so.0 (0x00002b7a06a02000)
libm.so.6 => /lib64/libm.so.6 (0x00002b7a06c20000)
libc.so.6 => /lib64/libc.so.6 (0x00002b7a06f6b000)
/lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 (0x00002b7a063ce000)
patti@linux:~/00_UEMS/users/00_uems/uems/bin>

I should mention my opensuse system is using glibc 2.27

It is unfortunate that intel binaries are not built statically.

Hello everyone ,
I still have problems with the EMS server. It says "server error" or something similar. I download the full gfs file from ncep server.
Do you still experience EMS server connexion failures ?

Thanks
