I am not sure if it is because I am following closer since running a local model, but the struggle with 2 meter temperatures has really stood out to me this winter. The nighttime temperatures appear to be much too cold over snow cover, sometimes as much as 8 to 12 degrees just a few hours into a simulation. It does not seem like tweaking combinations of microphysics for clouds, radiation schemes, surface layer schemes, really has any significant impact. The problem must be with the handling of snow cover? Has anyone had success with snow cover initializations, what do people use and have you had any success with nighttime radiational cooling over snowcover? Thanks!
