Anyone using separate land surface model (--lsm) init data for forecasts?

Post by pattim »

I'm having some trouble getting the relative humidity correct in a desert region. uEMS has a --lsm option to obtain land surface data from a server. I don't believe this is normally used for forecast data, but would this be better land-surface data than that included in standard initialization files from rap, nam, gfs, hrrr, etc? In a desert, the land surface plays a big role in relative humidity and turning rainfall into virga. - thanks!
