uncomplete output of ems_prep (met_em.*)

Post by Solaris » Wed Dec 05, 2012 12:01 pm

Hello everybody,
I'm new in all this topic, so first sorry for my bad english an maybe my stupid question. :)
For my bachelor labor i have to reanalysis a heavy rain event a few years ago.
I have create a 4-nestet domain, with dwiz. But when i want to ungrib (hope i have unterstand it right) the files with ems_prep, it does it only for the first domain complete. For the 2, 3, 4 domains it ungrib only the first grib file.
The date I have to reanalysis is: 01.08.2007 00:00 - 11.08.2007 00:00. Exactly 10 Days.

Grib files:

You see for the d02, d03, d04 it creates only one file (the start date) and not more. But I think i need the complete date of any domain.
The command I use is:
ems_prep --domains 2,3,4 --dset fnl --local --date 20070801 --cycle 00:00:240:6 --analysis

When i change the settings in namelist.wps in the static folder, it always overwrite it with a new one

Code: Select all

start_date =
'2007-08-01_00:00:00','2007-08-01_00:00:00','2007-08-01_00:00:00','2007-08-01_00:00:00'
end_date =
'2007-08-11_00:00:00','2007-08-01_00:00:00','2007-08-01_00:00:00','2007-08-01_00:00:00'
I don't understand why it works without any problems for the fist one and not for the rest.
I would be very thankful, if someone could help me.
best regards,
Pejman

Hello,

met_em* files are initial and boundary conditions for your run. So, for your mother domain, you have first time (initial conditions from global model, interpolated to model grid) and every other time for feeding mother domain with boundary conditions (those are airmasses that enter your mother domain from outside during model run).

For your nests, you have only initial conditions interpolated from global model to model grid, but for boundary conditions WRF will use parent domain conditions from your run, not global model conditions!

In other words, everything looks good to me.

Do you get any error when issue ems_run command?

Hello,
Thank you for your fast answer.
I have run ems_run not complete to the end, but the first 8 days and there wasn't any issus till then. This fact was wondering me at first.
The reason why i thougt there is a problem, is because my tutor/adviser (don't know how it called in english exactly) uses the classic wrf without ems and when he has ungrib the (with ungrib.exe, metgrid.exe an so on) files there was for all domains the met_em files avilable.
That was his output:

He types all command with his hands, but for me as an beginner it is too complicated. So ems is more comfortable for me.
But when you say in ems only the initial and boundary conditions for the mother domain are needed at first, then everything should be ok.
I'm very happy about that, I thougt I'm too stupid to get it. So I can go on with my work.
Thank you very much for your help.
best regards,
