Dear all,
I'd like to know which datasets are you using as input for your simulations. Right now, I only use gfsptiles and I'd like to improve the forecast including SST and any other you may suggest.
The domain lies entirely over the ocean, including some islands. This is why I think I should include also SST.

Re: About datasets
Hi,
I'm using ssthr for sst data using the following argument in the ems_prep command
or
in ems_autorun.conf.
I have not compared model output with or without sst. I assume it is doing the job.

Code: Select all
--sfc ssthr

SFC = ssthr

Re: About datasets
Hi David,
thanks for the advice. I've taken a look into ems_autorun.conf and it suggests
SFC = ssthires,sstlowres
However, you set just
SFC =ssthr
Is it the same?

Re: About datasets
Hi Luis,
It depends if you have the latest version.
Take a look in the ~/wrfems/conf/grib_info folder at the xxxxx_gribinfo.conf files. It is the first part of the name (i.e. xxxx) that counts and is used with the ems_prep command line option --sfc.
In my installation I have 4 options - ssthr, sstptile, sstport and sstportptile.
Hope this helps,
David

Re: About datasets
Of course it helps!
I get it running right now
Thanks a lot,

Re: About datasets
Good morning,
Further to this old post - the manual still suggests options ssthires and sstlowres but these files appear to not be reflected in gribinfo folder in the very latest download, I have had to do a full re-install of the operating system and the modelling system.
Any idea if these higher resolution sst files (or some usable other option) are still available in some way?
Best regards,
Theo

I will move my question to a new topic - about datasets is misleading - theo
