new hardware?!

Post by Antonix » Thu Aug 19, 2010 10:06 pm

Hello everyone
I intend to buy a new computer
AMD Phenom 3.2 GHz 1090T II x6 (six cores ...)
ram 4GB 1600 MHz DDR3

in your experience could be of great improvements compared to a 2.83 ghz intel quad core q9550???
is convenient???

Hello,

I'm not aware of any benchmarks from this processor. What's the price of it? Because, Intel Core I7 will about halve the required time for WRF in comparision to Core2Quad. So if it is not much cheaper than Core I7, I would go with Intel.

My benchmark with the 1055T. This was before I turned off Cool n Quiet. A touch faster with cool n quiet turned off.

hi meteoadriatic
The 1090T is priced at 250 euros and changing platform, selling the old, spend 150 euro more ...
but the performance of six cores at 3.2 GHz is less than a quad core Core i7??
I plan to overclock to 3.4 GHz up to 20 ghz in total ...
meteoadriatic you use a dual socket??
and model / price??

zoyx I found your test online.
you feel comfortable??
thanks a lot

I don't know if is 6-core AMD faster or slower than Core I7, but that chip is Istanbul, so I think that is not new architecture like Intel Nehalem (Core I...). I don't know much about AMD, but If I'm correct, I would say that Core I7 should be faster.

Looking here:
http://www.cpubenchmark.net/high_end_cpus.html

AMD Phenom 1090T is about 16% slower than Core I7 975, but about 9% faster than Core I7 860... it is hard to say will the same ratio be observed on running WRF. From that benchmark data it looks like good choice, especially because it's much lower price.

I have two Xeon E5530 processors in Fujitsu 1U rack. They are fast, but Intel already replaced E55XX processors with E56XX serie and newer ones are faster. Ah, that's the way things work.. you pay lot of money and 2 monts after there are 25% faster models for the same price :?
