CPU Intel gold series: bad performance for UEMS

Post by meteo60 » Mon Jan 14, 2019 9:28 am

Hi everybody,
I have actually a dual Xeon E5-2660v4 server, 28 physical cores, 2133MHz RAM
I tested on a dual Xeon gold 6130 server, 32 physical cores, 2666MHz RM

On 2660v4 the benchmark run take approximately 10 minutes.
On 6130 it take approximately 17 minutes.
I had the same differences with my domain: 3h vs 5h30!
It seems that these differences are due to the L3 cache: 22M on 6130 vs 35M on 2660v4.
Try this stress test:

Code: Select all

stress-ng --matrix 40 -t 30s --times --perf --tz --metrics-brief
The bogo ops/s show the same differences between the 2 cpus.
So don't choose Gold series...

CPUbenchmark favors dual Xeon E5-2660v4 system a bit so it is expected but difference looks too much.

How many threads did you used on dual Xeon gold 6130? 32 cores stinks to me little bit :)

I use 28 cores on 2660v4 (hyperthreading off), I have no gain with 27 cores. And I tested 32, 31 and 30 cores on Gold 6130: Better result with 32.
