configure the custom namelist

Post by blacksword » Tue Jul 19, 2016 11:48 am

hi guys,

it's been a day im struggling with the namelist variables but it seems what ever you change it will back to defualt when you run ems_prep.

how can i customize the variables for example i made 2 domains:

start_date = '2016-07-19_06:00:00', '2016-07-19_06:00:00'
end_date = '2016-07-20_18:00:00', '2016-07-19_06:00:00'

the Domain 1 start from 6 AM i want it to start from 00 AM and Domain 2 start from 6 AM/19 and end at the same time!! so i have only one out put as METGRID file .nc how can i change these variables to work as i wish?

Hello,

If you want to manually control namelists, you should use your custom scripting WRF system, not EMS. If you use EMS, you need to leave namelists to EMS, like pretty much anything else.

About how to start domains at different time, you will find in EMS user guide:
http://strc.comet.ucar.edu/software/new ... rguide.htm

For example, if you chose to use autorun routine, go to "Chapter | 10-9" and see Option: --domains.

Good luck!

yea i understand but why forecast of a day should start from 6 AM not 00 AM i don't understand the logic behind it,

for domain i am using the 3 step procedure first em_prep, em_run then em_post not the auto if you provide me an example it will be great.

for example i tried this command:

ems_prep --dset gfs --length 24 --domain 2:3

it did the domain one METGRID files but it made only 1 file for domain 2 and it is "met_em.d02.2016-07-19_09:00:00.nc" it didn't do the rest for next hours

Thanks

It starts depending on time you run it. If GFS 06z is available as latest run it will start from 06z. If you want to specify 00z run as start time, you do that:

Code: Select all

--cycle 00
on ems_prep line, see Chapter 7.7.2 of user manual. You will really need to read it :)

Domain 2 doesn't get boundary condition files; only analyse file. It is normal.

yea i know that but i was talking about initializing time in namelist.wps, i think the cycle define which dataset from NOAA server should be downloaded. for example if you put 00 it goes to current date and download the grib files from today 00 folder.

i just wanna make the forecast start from 00:00:00 as i mentioned now it start from:

start_date = '2016-07-19_06:00:00', '2016-07-19_06:00:00'

It will not start from 06z if you specify cycle=00! At least, not if you do everything correctly.

Please, post here exact commands you use to start EMS run.
